Michael T. Jackson, formerly of Belvedere, California, has worked for decades building an accomplished career in emerging markets and hedge funds. He established SFG Asset Advisors in 2001, and subsequently relocated from Belvedere to Florida. Throughout his career, Michael T. Jackson has demonstrated a passion for philanthropic work by supporting such initiatives as the founding of Napa Medical Research Foundation (NMRF).
NMRF regularly supports research exploring new treatments for disorders of the skeletal system and brain. The organization is currently participating in a number of research projects, including a study of greater trochanteric pain syndrome, or GTPS.
A condition typically found in both the elderly and middle-aged population, GTPS causes pain in the greater trochanter, which sits on the upper leg, near the hip joint. Individuals with this condition generally feel more intense pain after engaging in rigorous activity or lying on the afflicted area.
Through the support of NMRF, researchers have been able to hypothesize that tearing of the rotator cuff elicited the most persistent symptoms in GTPS patients. Therefore, scientists are looking to develop a treatment that involves the use of plasma platelets. When injected into the trochanter, this solution should help patients experience rapid healing and overcome their symptoms permanently.
This research has already elicited promising results. Between 80 percent and 90 percent of patients who received this experimental treatment saw an eradication of all their GTPS symptoms after a month. In the future, NMRF and its affiliate researchers hope to enlist the help of more patients for further trials.
A seasoned entrepreneur and investor, former Belvedere, California, resident Michael T. Jackson focuses on hedge fund management and emerging markets. At around the time he left Belvedere for Florida, Michael T. Jackson established SFG Asset Advisors. Moreover, he serves on the Board of Directors of The American Ireland Fund, which is part of The Ireland Funds.
The Ireland Funds counts the Young Leaders Society (YLS) among its programs. Attracting young professionals between the ages of 25 and 40, the YLS develops the next generation of leaders and philanthropists while placing an emphasis on connecting with modern Ireland. Collectively, YLS members contribute significantly to the fundraising efforts of The Ireland Funds.
In return for their efforts, YLS members receive free or discounted admission to a range of Irish cultural events annually. Additionally, each member receives an invitation to The Ireland Funds Conference, which takes place each year in Ireland, and The Young Leaders Society Annual Summit in New York City. During such events, YLS members can network with peers and global leaders in fields such as government, finance, and technology.
A seasoned investor, philanthropist, and business leader, Michael T. Jackson is a former resident of Belvedere, California. Now residing in Florida, Michael T. Jackson leverages approximately 30 years of hedge fund and investment experience to guide young professionals with SFG Asset Advisors. Further, the former Belvedere resident is the founder of Napa Medical Research Foundation (NMRF), which conducts research into orthopedic regenerative healing.
One of NMRF’s most recent studies examined cervical facet arthritis, which most commonly affects individuals over the age of 50. Treatments for the condition generally involve injections of corticosteroids and biologic agents, such as plasma and bone marrow. In many cases, injections utilize fluoroscopic (x-ray) guidance. A time-consuming technique, fluoroscopically guided injections may have an accuracy rate of below 80 percent.
The study examined a new ultrasound-guided technique capable of delivering biologic agents to affected areas with greater accuracy sans radiation. Phase I trials have demonstrated the technique to be between 95 and 100 percent accurate. The data from the trial is now in the hands of a statistician, and the study’s findings are being prepared for publication.
A former Belvedere resident, Michael T. Jackson founded Napa Medical Research Foundation (NMRF) to support research into orthopedic regenerative healing. Now residing in Florida rather than Belvedere, Michael T. Jackson currently serves as the foundation’s chairman of the board. The NMRF has contributed valuable research to a number of conditions, and one of its recent studies focused on Sever’s disease.
First described by Sever in Boston in 1912, Sever’s disease relates to pain in the heel and Achilles’ tendon, and is a common complaint for children between the ages of seven and 12. It is commonly attributed to apophysitis, or inflammation of the apophysis, which is the insertion site for a tendon.
The study conducted by NMRF found that current treatment methods, such as orthotics, casts, and cast-boots, do not prevent over 50 percent of children from having recurring problems. Instead, after examining the benefits of a 12-week exercise program, the study found that symptoms were resolved completely with exercise in as little as two weeks.
The foundation is now working on developing a different protocol for a randomized control group of 10 patients, with the results to be published upon completion. However, the early signs point to the conclusion that previous methods of treating Sever’s disease are inadequate for patient needs, but possible to be improved upon.
A one-time resident of Belvedere, California, Michael T. Jackson is the founder of SFG Asset Advisors, and a former member of the board of trustees of the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI). Although no longer living in Belvedere, Michael T. Jackson has lent his support to the SFAI for a number of years. The organization is currently gearing up to host the Original Disruptor Gala in April of 2017.
The Disruptor Gala presents twelve alumni artists with the opportunity to create temporary bars and lounges. The aim is to create a number of visually striking sites, with the focus being placed on delivering the unexpected, in commemoration of the ground-breaking artists that have emerged from the SFAI’s Chestnut Street campus in Russian Hill, such as Ansel Adams, Barry McGee, and Joan Brown.
The event is the premier fundraiser in the SFAI calendar, with all proceeds going toward student scholarships. The evening itself will be a celebration of the spirit of the organization, and of those who have graduated from SFAI in the past. Discover more about the Disruptor Gala by visiting www.sfai.edu.
Michael T. Jackson, founder of SFG Asset Advisors in San Francisco, moved from Belvedere to Florida, where he currently resides. Born in England, Michael T. Jackson grew up in Ireland before establishing an active presence in Belvedere. Aside from work, he busies himself with travel and has visited several countries, including Morocco.
The best time to travel to Morocco is from May to September, its off-season, although prices remain high on the coast due to domestic tourism. The most popular time to visit is from November to March, but prices are highest during this time.
Getting around Morocco is affordable and can be done by train, car, bus, or taxi. The train, which has frequent departures between major cities, is the most accessible option. In destinations not serviced by trains, travelers can take the bus, which is cheaper, although slower.
Here are some other considerations for first-time visitors to Morocco to keep in mind:
• Most shops and museums are closed Friday, which is considered a holy day.
• Travelers are advised to bring bottled drinking water.
• When giving tips at restaurants, it is customary to give $1 per person at local places and around $3 to $5 per person at more upscale places.
• Avoid displaying the soles of the feet, which are perceived as unclean in Arab culture. Likewise, shoes must be taken off when invited into someone’s house.
• When visiting mosques, women should bring a shawl or a scarf to cover their head.
Formerly based in Belvedere, California, Michael T. Jackson had a high-profile career in the corporate finance and hedge fund management sphere. Michael T. Jackson was actively involved in charitable activities spanning Belvedere and the greater San Francisco Bay Area, with a focus on health care and social issues. Now a Florida resident, he has provided funding for the Fledgling Fund, which provides grants to worthy documentary filmmakers.
Having supported nearly three 350 projects over the past decade, the Fledgling Fund focuses funding on movies with the potential to positively impact society. Subjects range from the environment to social justice, with current grants supporting documentaries such as Daughters of the Forest, which follows the lives of students who attend the Mbaracayú Forest Girls’ School in Paraguay. Girls who attend the school are provided with a practical education that focuses on providing them with entrepreneurial skills to launch sustainable ventures.
Another recent Fledgling Fund grant-funded movie, Death by Design examines the hidden costs associated with consumer devices, both in terms of environmental degradation and in the lives of factory workers in countries such as China.
